The measures by which the Bihor County Council tries to combat the effects of climate change are, among others, the expansion of natural gas networks and the construction of new roads. “The expansion of gas networks in Bihor county will massively reduce the cutting of forests. It will be a very important direct effect”, said Ilie Bolojan, when asked by Jurnal Bihorean if the institution he leads takes into account, when making the desolation strategy, the effects of climate change on the environment and the inhabitants and if there is a strategy to combat them, both economically and environmentally.

Bolojan explained that each new passage that is made at the exit from Oradea, “will directly reduce pollution”. “A car can sit in traffic for one minute, when it leaves Oradea, or ten minutes and pollute for ten minutes”, emphasizes the president CJ Bihor, who cited a study according to which more than 40% of pollution is caused by traffic. “We can only discourage it (car traffic) by making pedestrian spaces, but that is not the policy of the County Council. Or funding public transport. What we do by tram-train”, explained head CJ Bihor.

The tram-train would encourage public transport, make circulation more fluent, so that “people do not stand in traffic and do not pollute”.
The Head of the County emphasized that the institution he leads did not have the opportunity to submit projects on the environment, apart from those for bicycle lanes. Vice-President Mircea Mălan gave as an example the project started in the spring of this year, “Bihorul planteăuă”, in this sense.

He also mentioned the projects carried out in partnership with the National Agency for Natural Protected Areas (ANANP) for the conservation of some areas of the protected areas in Bihor county. “We have a project to give the opportunity to everyone who is passionate about motocross or riding ATVs through the woods. We are doing this in Aușeu, at the edge of the protected area, precisely to remove this form of aggression from the protected area. Basically, we are concerned about this area, the cleanliness of our county and the way we respond to this problem, which is becoming more and more complex, shows that we are concerned about this dimension”, said vice-president Mircea Mălan.
