Uliului Street in Cluj-Napoca was closed after the landslide occurred on Friday evening. Residents on the street say that the problem of cracks in the asphalt has been reported repeatedly, but last time the City Hall poured asphalt so that the cracks could not be seen.

Well, physics beat Emil Boc, and the poured asphalt could not hold the road, which needed major consolidation works, with drilled pillars and other well-thought-out interventions.

For two days I saw that he started to cry more and more and as you can see, this is the result. This is how it is necessary to reach crisis situations in order to take measures. We are afraid. If a medical emergency is needed or there is a fire, then the authorities will not be able to send the crews in a timely manner to solve the problem.

We are stuck with cars. We have families, children to take to school, kindergarten and we depend on the access road“, says another local.

The first cracks appeared the other day. Then the authorities paved the affected area, but less than 24 hours later the ground broke again.

Until now there is no practicable road. It’s a shock. The lack of reaction is shocking. Nothing happens, nothing is transmitted to us. And we’re lucky it’s not raining today. What if it rains tomorrow or in the next few days? No one comes, no professional. How can you not realize as a crew chief that you can’t dump tons of weight on a landslide?“, says a resident of the area.

The problem is the heavy traffic in the area. There are concrete mixers that keep coming and destroying the road. The town hall is overwhelmed by the situation“, another man said.

The town hall led by Emil Boc did a small thing to solve the problem known for years. A road was paved through the Hoia forest, and those who live on Uliului can get home or to the city by bypassing the forest.

The local committee for Emergency Situations was convened and the following measures were taken: closure of car traffic on Uliului Street, identification of alternative routes. Let’s see what the expertise will tell us so we can see what work is needed to get everyone out there safe“, said Iulia Perșa, spokesperson at Cluj-Napoca City Hall.

It is certain that the problem on Uliului street comes from the heavy tonnage machines that circulate there unimpeded and transport construction materials and concrete to construction sites. The road is not made to withstand this heavy traffic, but those who issued the construction permits from Cluj-Napoca City Hall did not think about it at all.
