Contre between Fodor and Bibu in full pre-election campaign on the regulations of the Obor Sports Base and a potential ice rink in Sibiu (video)

Astrid Fodor (FDGR) and Adrian Bibu (PNL) disagreed, on Thursday, during the regular session of the City Council, due to several draft decisions. They did not agree on the operating regulations of the Obor Sports Base, but also on the location of a future ice rink.

The regulation of the Obor Sports Base was contested between the main counter-candidates at the Sibiu City Hall

One of the draft resolutions on the agenda of the City Council meeting at the end of April concerned the approval of the operating regulations of the Obor Sports Base, which is to be inaugurated following the completion of the works. The PNL councilors abstained from the vote, and this is because they did not agree with what was mentioned in the regulation. Adrian Bibu requested that the project be withdrawn from the agenda, in order to be analyzed in detail and to be able to come up with an amendment later.

“The group of PNL councilors wants the withdrawal from the agenda of the project number 3. The regulation is made especially for groups of seniors. I think that Sibiu, as a vision on the sports side and as a strategy, we must also think about the groups and centers for children and juniors. Yesterday (no: Wednesday) I was on the spot and I concluded after seeing everything there, that the prices we proposed do not encourage children and junior centers to carry out their activity. My prayer would be that we withdraw this project from the agenda, reanalyze it and come up with proposals and an amendment to encourage athletes and children’s and junior centers,” said Adrian Bibu.

Astrid Fodor did not want to withdraw the project from the agenda and asked councilor Bibu to propose an amendment. The main opponent of the mayor in office stated that “sport is not done quickly forward and on the knees” and, therefore, did not want to come up with an amendment in the plenary. “It was good if we discussed these things beforehand. We cannot make a regulation from today to tomorrow. I think that if we do it the right way and encourage children and juniors… It would be good to wait. If you don’t want to, then we refrain,” Bibu replied.

“We are not talking about a strategy now, we are talking about a regulation. So I submit to the vote as it is on the agenda”, concluded Fodor, the project being approved with 13 votes in favor and with the abstention of PNL councilors.

Skating rink in Sibiu. In Sub Arini, on Dumbrăvii or in Câmpșor

Later, other contradictory discussions between Astrid Fodor and Adrian Bibu followed, this time on account of the development of an ice rink in the municipality. The discussion was initiated by a citizen registered to speak in plenary, who asked the municipality to find a solution for the city’s athletes who, in the absence of an ice rink, have to train for national and international competitions on land.

“Before the Revolution, the ice rink in Sub Arini was full of children, young people, mature people, pensioners like me. His absence was and is felt by many townspeople. I know the reality (…) which is why I came before you today to support the urgent realization of a functional ice rink. We have athletes with quite obvious results at national and international level, although they work on land. (…) The future administration will be able to realize this initiative even through European projects. As you know, we have a great coach who has very good results. Believe me, the 6, 7-year-old children were crying because they came to practice and had to learn to do this special sport on land,” said a citizen in the CL plenary.

Adrian Bibu took the floor saying that the most suitable place for an ice rink would be Câmpșor, and not Calea Dumbrăvii, as proposed by mayor Astrid Fodor. “I saw that the mayor supports the construction of this ice rink on Calea Dumbrăvii. I still think it would be good to sit at the table if we build an ice rink, and I think it’s good to build it. An ice rink is good to be built in an area where we develop sports, and that area is Calea Poplăcii or Câmpșor, where we all also approved a PUZ. I think we have to see things as a strategy, because now I’m coming back to Obor and I want to tell you that the ground there, which is made of dirt and grass, can only be used 3 times a week. If we consulted on this field, we understood that if a synthetic one were made, (…) it could be used today by children’s and senior centers. Same with the ice rink. It would be good to sit, to analyze, like the people of Transylvania at the table, not to answer quickly before and to make a decision quickly, on Calea Dumbrăvii, next to a center that ULBS is doing”, said Adrian Bibu.

“The decision was not made quickly before. For the rest, regarding the synthetic land at Obor, there were several projects, from the very beginning, in the City Council, if you had studied them carefully, you could have made observations since then, that we should change and we make a synthetic pitch. Consulting with the specialists, regarding which terrain is more suitable in terms of the health of the athletes, the muscles, the bones, we were recommended every time to be a natural terrain. (…) The regulation was in public debate for a month, if you had an observation, you could have made it”, replied Astrid Fodor.

The adversarial discussions then continued between Fodor and Bibu.

“Now you know very well that things are moving fast and we are voting fast,” added Bibu.

“You don’t have to vote fast ahead,” Fodor said.

“When you make a pitch for health, if you also look at the bases that Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and so on have, they don’t just have a pitch. That’s why I tell you that you need a strategy and a vision. For this, we need to consult specialists. You can’t make a field when you have the FC Hermannstadt team, the Voinșa team, and the Inters Star and Inter Star junior teams, you have to make 5, 6 fields. That’s the strategy. It is ineffective,” Bibu added.

“We will see how effective it is. Next time we consult your vision, let’s see where we end up”, concluded Fodor.
