Who now has the first chance at the Capital City Hall. IRES research director, about the percentages of candidates and the scenario of Piedone’s withdrawal

The political scene in Romania has undergone massive changes in recent days, especially regarding the local elections in Bucharest, and we analyzed the whole situation with Dan Jurcan, sociologist and research director at the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy (IRES).

Here are the most interesting statements given by Dan Jurcan:

“It’s an extremely complicated situation, especially for the PSD-PNL coalition. All this indecision or lack of leadership that has manifested itself in recent months, whether it was about the merger or whether it was about the nomination of the candidate for the Capital City Hall, it will have a cost, and this cost will probably be paid in the European parliamentary elections and probably even later.

But it is, at the same time, a symbolic signal. It shows us that if this coalition does not work for Bucharest, it clearly does not work for the presidency either.

The hypothesis launched by many of the PSD leaders – that by entering the race of Gabriela Firea, it is very possible that a good part of the votes going to Mr. Piedone will be reoriented towards Gabriela Firea, is a plausible hypothesis. This does not mean, however, that all the votes will go to Mrs. Firea”.
