Several human skeletons were discovered during excavations carried out for excavation works in the yard of Hospital no. 2 Vaslui, taking into account the possibility that there was an old cemetery in the area.
According to the management of the “Ştefan cel Mare” County Museum in Vaslui, 13 skeletons, 12 adults and a child, were discovered, with clear indications that this is not a mass grave.
“At this moment, the surveillance excavation has turned into a preventive excavation, as a consequence, we will organize ourselves in such a way as to carry out this work in order to be able to unload the area archaeologically. It seems that there are two levels of burial, one contemporary and one of medieval type, but all these things can only be said after the specific analyzes are done, so that we can figure out exactly which period they are from.
There was no mass grave here. The skeletons are placed in a certain way, they are traces of a coffin. It’s just a cemetery,” said the director of the Vaslui “Ştefan cel Mare” County Museum, Ramona Mocanu.
The construction works are suspended for an indefinite period to carry out the archaeological unloading activities. For the accuracy of the research, the specialists will use magnetometric scans.
The representatives of the Vaslui County Police Inspectorate stated, for Agerpres, that in the first phase it was announced by the builder who was carrying out excavation works in the area that a human skeleton was found, after which the rest of the skeletons were also discovered. In this case, the police started investigations, a criminal case was opened for manslaughter.
