The “Ovidius” trade union of Constanţa Museum Workers announces the entry into the Japanese strike, on Thursday, of the union employees from three museums and from the county library, sounding an alarm against “the mockery of the governors”.

“If you also believe that, for equal work, the remuneration must be equal, that overtime must be paid and that cultural institutions must be properly funded, in order to get out of the dust in which they are sinking deeper and deeper, carry thursday a white armband! If you have noticed the inadequate conditions in which the employees of the cultural institutions work, the shortages caused by insufficient staff, outdated facilities, which make the work of the workers difficult and which do not allow them to address the public as it deserves, wear a white armband on the date of April 4!”, it is stated in a press release sent, on Wednesday evening, by the “Ovidius” Trade Union of Constanţa Museum Workers.

The trade unionists warn that they will not “stop here”, given that the authorities have become accustomed to “the servants of culture sitting, obedient, with their heads bowed and waiting”.

“In the context of not honoring the promises made by the Government of Romania during the negotiations with the representatives of the National Federation of Trade Unions in Culture and Press ‘CulturMedia’ and the president of CNS Cartel Alfa, Mr. Bogdan Iuliu Hossu, regarding the elimination of wage inequities arising as a result of GEO 128/2023, the employees from museums and public libraries are, once again, humiliated and their work disrespected. In response to this attitude, the unions respect their word given to the members and initiate protest actions throughout the country, according to the program announced in the second half of March”, the press release states.

On Thursday, trade unionists from the Constanta National History and Archeology Museum, the Constanta Folk Art Museum, the Constanta Art Museum and the “Ioan N. Roman” Constanta County Library will wear, during working hours, a white armband, which they will write the existing dissatisfactions at the level of the professional branches.
