Every city, every county has representative people in every field. In Alba and Alba Iulia, when you talk about tattoos, about the art of tattooing, one name stands out: Bercea.

Marius Bercea is one of the oldest tattoo artists from Alba Iulia. It comes from the “old school” of tattoo artists, those who didn’t start with professional machines, but with “hand made” machines with motors and guitar strings.

For some time now he has teamed up with another very well-known tattoo artist in the city, Sebastian Ispas. A tattoo artist who comes from the “new school”.

I met the two, in their “Unity” salon, in Alba Iulia, while they were working on a joint piece. A whole back to be tattooed with the comic book character, but also from the “Venom” movies.

Marius Bercea’s story in the world of tattoos began in high school. Since he was a student of the High School of Arts. Then, at the request of some friends, he started tattooing.

The first tattoo machine he ever got his hands on

He was using a tattoo machine made from a motor and a guitar string. Then the years went by and he realized that he could do it on a professional level.

The first time he got a tattoo kit bought from Amazon. It was quite difficult the first tattoo he used the new machine on, but over time he learned to work with it.

He learned to work on his own, to be self-taught, because it was a time when there were no internet tutorials and no people to teach you some of the secrets of tattooing.

Now, there are online tutorials that can be purchased, there are tattoo artist courses, and information is just a few clicks away.

Marius says that tattoos are no longer a taboo subject. From doctors, workers, policemen and even policemen, everyone wants to get tattooed.

The transition from the old school to the new

These younger people now are much more capable, much more receptive as people, they advance very quickly what is good. You have something to learn from the new generation, because they are much more involved, some of them, as is the case with my colleague”, said Marius Bercea.

The desire to do something more

Sebastian and Marius opened a joint salon, out of the desire to do something more in the world of tattoos in Alba.

“We are happy when people come to the salon with a different perception. They are given a different vision of a tattoo parlor, Then from this point of view a change is observed”, explained Sebastian Ispas.

Today’s society has largely managed to cross the threshold where tattoos were considered a taboo subject, and Marius and Sebastian are waiting for their customers in their salon in Alba Iulia.

“It is no longer taken into account that you are a waiter, a maid, a policeman or a judge. It doesn’t matter anymore. Anyone who wants to put something on their skin is welcome”, said Sebastian Ispas in conclusion.
