The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) adopted a decision that stipulates that, in the June 9 elections, electoral alliances can support independent candidates for mayors, local and county councils, reports News.ro.

Thus, according to the website of the Central Electoral Bureau, the following decision was adopted:

“Art. 1. (1) In the elections for local public administration authorities on June 9, 2024, electoral alliances may include on the lists of candidates for the positions of local councilor, county councilor or councilor of the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest persons who are not members of the political formations that make up the respective electoral alliances.

(2) In the elections for the local public administration authorities on June 9, 2024, the electoral alliances can propose to the positions of mayor, general mayor of the municipality of Bucharest or president of a county council persons who are not members of the political formations that enter the composition of the respective electoral alliances.

Art. 2. In the elections for the local public administration authorities on June 9, 2024, the lists of supporters drawn up before the publication of this decision for the persons in the situations of art. 1 remain valid and can be used by the electoral alliances on whose lists they appear as a candidate.

Art. 3. In the elections for members from Romania in the European Parliament on June 9, 2024, the lists of supporters drawn up by a political formation prior to the admission of a protocol for the establishment of an electoral alliance in which the said political formation enters remain valid and can be used by the respective electoral alliance”.

So far, the doctor Cătălin Cîrstoiu is supported by PSD and PNL for a candidacy for the Capital City Hall, he is not registered in any party. Moreover, the current mayor general Nicusor Dan, an independent, is supported by the United Right Alliance, formed by USR, PMP and Forza Dreptei for a second term as head of the Bucharest City Hall.
