New documentation for an alternative route to the Airport. A dirt road must be asphalted – Ziarul de Iasi

The novelty is that the municipality will update the technical documentation created a few years ago.

Asphalt for only a few kilometers

Although the project regarding the access road proposed by the Iaşi City Hall is not a major one, since it is about asphalting a few kilometers of road, such an investment has not been carried out until now. This happened in the conditions where, from 2022 onwards, a new terminal of the Iasi Airport was built, and, the other day, this facility was opened to the general public. The construction of a new access road to Iasi Airport was one of the promises of the 2016 and 2020 election campaigns.

“The development of the airport transport infrastructure requires the development of the street network in order to ensure access to the Iaşi Airport in optimal conditions of safety and comfort”, says the City Hall in the award documentation related to the contract signed with Trust AVB SRL for the updating of the project. The road involves the modernization of two streets (Holboca and Aeroportului), along with the asphalting of the dirt road area. In total, 2.8 km of road.

“Currently, a new access route to the Airport has been identified that starts from Aurel Vlaicu Street, follows the Holboca Street route, then continues with the Aeroportului Street route. This street is landscaped and can be used by drivers until they reach the RA Aeroportul premises. The Aeroportului street route continues with an impassable section at ground level until the intersection with the airport access road from the highway. Ciric that is currently in use. The reality on the ground confirms the need to modernize Airport Street and continue the route of this street to the new terminal”, the specification also states.

A portion belongs to MAi and MApN

Although the idea of ​​asphalting Aeroportului str. has been circulated for a long time, the City Hall has not yet even taken steps to obtain all the land necessary for such an investment. Portions of this road (the area that is now dirt) belong to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the County Council. “The beneficiary will take steps to obtain the land necessary for carrying out the investment to modernize Aeroportului Street”, the award documentation states.

The new design contract signed by Iasi City Hall has a value of 192,000 lei, excluding VAT. In October 2022, the City Council approved the feasibility study related to the above-mentioned project – at that time, the estimate showed a financing requirement of 6.4 million lei (including VAT).

At the design level, it is also the initiative of the Iaşi County Council for the development of a new access road to the Airport, which, in part, also means the modernization of an existing road: DJ 282G lim. The municipality of Iaşi – Aroneanu – Rediu Aldei (approximately 6.5 km) and the construction of the connecting road from DJ 282 G (Aroneanu) – Iaşi International Airport (approximately 3 km).
