The deposits of slag and ash from the two large thermal power plants, Rovinari and Turceni, were the subject of urgent controls carried out by the commissioners of the Gorj Environmental Guard. The reason: the scattering of dust that affected the area during periods of strong wind.
The results of the controls revealed that, in neither of the two cases, there was no proper intervention to control these spills. As a result, both thermal power plants were fined 15,000 lei each.
The situation has raised concern among the authorities and residents of the region, as dust spills can have serious consequences for people’s health and the environment.
Environmental controls have become more frequent, and the authorities are determined to enforce strict compliance with environmental protection rules and regulations in all industrial sectors.
The Rovinari and Turceni thermal plants, although important for the production of electricity in the region, must take responsibility for their environmental impact and take effective measures to reduce pollution and protect the health of local communities.
