Prosecutor Eugen Stoina retired. He is involved in a scandal, being investigated in the case of an accident caused after allegedly driving drunk

The Prosecutor of the Sibiu Court, Eugen Stoina retired, according to a decree signed on Tuesday, April 2, by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.

“Decree regarding the release from the position of prosecutor of Mr. Stoina Eugen, prosecutor at the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sibiu District Court, having the professional rank corresponding to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice – retirement”, it is stated on the page of the presidency.

The prosecutor is involved in a scandal after he allegedly got behind the wheel and hit two cars, but escaped the alcohol test.

In mid-March, former police officer Marian Răduinea posted on his page de Facebook an audio recording in which the prosecutor of the Sibiu Court, Eugen Stoina, recognizes the occurrence and context of the accident.

Also, in 2021, Stoina was brought before the CSM under several charges, the only one for which he was sanctioned was the delay in the expeditious resolution of cases, for imputable reasons (art. 99 letter h) of Law no. 303/2004 on the status of judges and prosecutors).

As shown in a response from the Judicial Inspection sent to luju.ro in October this year, Stoina “postponed the resolution of a number of 160 criminal files that had been assigned to him”. At the same time, Stoina was also accused of faulty processing of a file and he kept some evidence (recordings of interceptions from two files), although he was not allowed to do so. For these latter violations, Stoina was not sanctioned.
