The decisions adopted by the City Council do not necessarily mean that they must also be applied, shows a situation at Baia de Fier City Hall. The councilors adopted a decision 10 years ago to install turnstiles at the entrance to the Muierilor Cave, but it has not been implemented even today. Although the purchase of turnstiles is included in the local annual budget, they have never been purchased. In the neighboring town of Polovragi, turnstiles were installed, and this led to streamlining and monitoring of cave entrance tickets.

The issue of implementing the project to install turnstiles at Muierilor Cave remains unresolved, even after a decade since the decision was adopted by the City Council. This situation was brought to public attention by Melania Lera, PNL candidate for Baia de Fier City Hall, who emphasized the lack of action by local authorities regarding this crucial project.

“We cannot have a correct representation of the number of tourists nor of the income from the entrance tickets under these conditions. Year after year, this project was only on paper”, stressed Melania Leră. She added that the empowered institutions should ensure compliance with the decisions of the City Council to ensure their effective implementation.

Transparency in spending public money was another important point addressed by the PNL candidate. His proposals include broadcasting local council meetings online so that citizens are informed about local government decisions and actions.

“Every year, even this year, the mayor’s office allocated funds in the local budget for the installation of turnstiles at the Muierilor Cave, but never got around to installing them. A decision adopted by the City Council in 2014 is not applied even today, at 10 years away. We cannot have a correct representation of the number of tourists nor of the income from the entrance tickets. Year after year, this project was only on paper. I think that the competent institutions should ensure that the decisions of the City Council are respected so that they to be implemented. Every resident must know what the money is spent on and what the city hall’s plans are. Transparency of the spending of public money is mandatory. Among my proposals is to broadcast local council meetings online so that citizens know what is going on “, she wrote in a post on Facebook.
