Simona Bucura-Oprescu, the Minister of Labor and Social Solidarity, participated on Monday in the inauguration of new spaces equipped with state-of-the-art equipment at the Pediatric Hospital in Pitesti, Argeș county. Investments in the modernization, expansion and equipment of the specialized Outpatient Clinic and the Emergency Reception Unit totaled over 20 million lei, funds attracted from European resources by the Argeș County Council.

Patients from several counties in the southern part of the country benefit from these investments, the Pediatric Hospital in Pitesti having regional status.

An important component of the investments made here is the space and equipment for the treatment and recovery of children with disabilities. In this sense, a room with a pool with three steps for hydrokinetotherapy, two rooms for kinesotherapy (one of which is individual), rooms for massage and physiotherapy, a Nirvana room (neuroplasticity) were created. The sanitary facilities and the pool are optimized to allow access for disabled children.

“It is an important moment for Argeș. I am glad that this moment is 40 years since we have a Pediatric Hospital in Argeș, in Pitesti. I think that each of us, when we were children or now with our children, at some point, passed by here. It is gratifying, when we come back, to see changes for the better in the hospital, changes for the better that also concern the people and the way we are received here, the fact that we also have a regeneration of those who practice the medical act because we have many new doctors. This aspect is also seen at the level of the hospital’s management consisting of young people. But, I am very happy to see that we also have an evolution in terms of endowment. Moreover, soon, the Pediatric Hospital will also be equipped with an arthroscopy tower and an ultrasound machine with cardio mode, financed from the state budget, as a result of an amendment that I supported together with my parliamentary colleagues from Argeș and which was included in the state budget. I believe that no amount is too big to be invested in the health of the people of Argeș, even more so of our children, and I also want to thank all those who thought, applied for these projects, in this case the Argeș County Council, and thanks to whom each of us brings our children with more confidence to the Pitesti Pediatric Hospital. Today I also saw here a recovery center for children with disabilities, as there are not many in the country. But what was achieved at the Pediatric Hospital in Pitesti represents an example of good practices that should be multiplied in as many specialized units as possible and in medico-social assistance units. It is an example that recovery and treatment at European standards can be done here, at home,” declared Minister Simona Bucura-Oprescu.

In February, according to the data provided by the National Agency for Payments and Social Inspection, 48,518 children with severe disabilities and 10,679 children with accentuated disabilities were registered in Romania. Such investments, like the one in Pitesti, are, in this context, more than necessary.
