The works for the Sibiu-Pitesti highway continue this year on section 3, part of the A1 Bucharest-Nădlac (Arad). It is the longest section among the five on this section, with a length of 37.4 kilometers, and stretches between Cornetu (Vâlcea) and Tigveni (Argeș).

CNAIR issued for this section 676 expropriation and compensation decisions for individuals and companies from Argeș and Vâlcea.

Who collects the highest amount for the expropriations on the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway

The most numerous expropriations, a total of 406, take place in four communes in Argeș County: Cepari (65), Sălătrucu (180), Șuici (110) and Tigveni (62). The rest of the 270 expropriations are registered in two communes in Vâlcea county: Perișani (183) and Racovița (87). The total amount of compensation amounts to 16.1 million lei.

The largest compensation for this segment will be awarded to Hidroelectrica for the demolition of an industrial building located on private land in the commune of Șuici, Argeș. It is an industrial building with an area of 4,566 square meters. The value of the compensation is 4.97 million lei, which represents almost a third of the total amount granted for the expropriations on this segment, the longest on the Sibiu-Pitesti highway, according to Adevarul.

Also, in the commune of Șuici there is another significant compensation, in the amount of 2.2 million lei, granted to the Gadova Consulting company for the demolition of an industrial building with an area of 190 square meters.

As far as individuals are concerned, the largest compensation will be awarded to a family from the Sălătrucu commune in Argeș, the amount being almost 179,000 lei and will be awarded for the demolition of a house with an area of 94 square meters.

In contrast, the lowest compensation granted is 17.25 lei, being intended for a plot of 15 square meters, also in the Sălătrucu commune of Argeș.

In Vâlcea county, the most significant compensation is 426,000 lei and is granted to a family from Perișani commune for the demolition of an annex with an area of 565 square meters.

The execution of works on section 3 of the Sibiu-Pitesti highway must be completed by the fall of 2027, and their value is 5.3 billion lei, excluding VAT.

The longest section on the Sibiu-Pitesti highway

The Webuild – Tancrad association, the builder designated for the construction of Lot 3 of the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway, completed the field studies (archaeological, topographical and geotechnical) in January 2024, and on April 15, 2024 will submit the project to obtain the building permit.

At the same time, builders began to organize construction sites at various points on the future highway and hire labor for the implementation of the project. In total, 3,000 people will be involved in the construction work on this section.

Section 3 of the Sibiu-Pitesti highway will be 37.4 kilometers long (being the longest of all five sections), including over 12 kilometers of bridges, passages and viaducts, as well as more than 25 kilometers of consolidation works. Also, two road junctions and an ecoduct will be built that will cross the Olt River, the railway and the DN7. In addition, according to the information provided by the builder, it is estimated that 4.5 million cubic meters of excavation, 3.5 million cubic meters of filling and more than 50 kilometers of bored piles will be carried out.

The project also includes the construction of a 1.7-kilometer tunnel, located at Poiana (Vâlcea), which will become the longest highway tunnel in Romania. The construction of this tunnel represents a particular engineering challenge, and the associated structures are also complex, considering that viaducts with a height of up to 40 meters will be built.

Financing for the Sibiu-Pitesti highway, secured from non-refundable European funds

It is important to note that 85% of the total funding for the Sibiu-Pitesti highway comes from non-reimbursable European funds.

Section 1 (Sibiu-Boita) of the future Sibiu-Pitesti highway, with a length of 13.7 kilometers, is the only one of the five sections that was completed by the end of 2022. The contract for the design and execution of this section, worth of 612.6 million lei, without VAT, was signed on April 14, 2019, between CNAIR and Porr Construct SRL. Work began in spring 2020 and was completed on 15 December 2022.
