Some of the employees of the Romanian Post went on a general strike, starting on April 1, 2024. In Cluj county, 85% of the postal subunits stopped their activity, according to the trade unionists. Among their grievances are mainly low wages for the workload. The company’s activity will remain suspended, its representatives announce, until the management takes measures to resolve the conflict.

More than 85% of the subunits of the Romanian Post Office in Cluj county are suspending their activity today, April 1, due to the general strike at the national level. Carol Șinka, president of the Postal Workers Union, Cluj branch, states that the strikers will not resume their activity as long as their demands are not satisfied.

Salary increase by 400 lei net and increase in loyalty bonus

“80% of the company’s employees have the minimum wage in the economy”, says Carol Șinka, leader of the Postal Workers Union, Cluj branch.

In an effort to supplement the activity of the strikers, the management of the company sent 13 employees from Bucharest to the units in Cluj. However, they were not accepted to carry out their activity in Cluj, and they are currently staying in Cluj-Napoca. The travel and accommodation costs of the 13 employees are covered by the Romanian Post management.

On the other hand, the management of the Romanian Post specified that the 13 employees sent from Bucharest to Cluj were intended to give a helping hand to the employees of the Logistic Hub, not to replace them.

Both employee representatives and company representatives are open to dialogue and negotiations. The Board of Directors of the Romanian Post communicates the fact that they are directly interested in increasing the salary income of the employees and that they are eager to reach an effective solution to the problem.

Following Saturday’s negotiations, the trade unionists obtained an increase in the salary fund by 45 million lei, according to the management of the Romanian Post Office.
