On March 29, the fire broke out in several areas, including the municipality of Roman, the communes of Cordun, Vânători Neamț, Bicaz Chei, and Dămuc, affecting various areas of land, from a few hundred square meters to 20 hectares in the case of the commune Bicaz Chei.

The next day, the flames devastated land in the communes of Tașca, Crăcăoani, and Poienari, and on March 31, a major fire affected 3 hectares in the commune of Piatra Șoimului.

These interventions were marked by significant difficulties: the difficult access to the fire areas, the lack of water sources in the vicinity, and the rapid expansion of the fire in windy conditions.

In many cases, citizens initiated uncontrolled burning of stubble, household waste or dry vegetation, without adequate prevention or supervision measures, thus contributing to the risk of fires spreading to households, annexes, or even to the forest floor.

Below, the ISU Neamt press release:

On 29.03.2024, he intervened to locate and extinguish some dry vegetation fires as follows:
– in Roman municipality, on Fabricii street where dry vegetation burned on an area of approximately 600 square meters;
– in the commune of Cordun, in the locality of Simionești, where dry vegetation burned on an area of approximately 6,000 square meters;
– in the commune of Vânători Neamț, in the locality of Nemțișor where dry vegetation burned on an area of approximately one hectare;
– in the commune of Bicaz Chei where dry vegetation, brambles, fells and stumps burned on an area of approximately 20 ha;
– in the commune of Dămuc, where they burned dry vegetation and woody material on an area of approximately 5 ha.

On 30.03.2024, he intervened to locate and extinguish some dry vegetation fires as follows:
– in Tașca commune where dry vegetation burned on an area of approximately 5 ha;
– in Crăcăoani commune, in Poiana Crăcăoani locality where dry vegetation burned on an area of approximately 400 square meters;
– in Poienari commune where dry vegetation burned on an area of approximately one hectare.

On 31.03.2024, an intervention was made in the commune of Piatra Șoimului for the location and liquidation of a dry vegetation fire that occurred on an area of approximately 3 ha.

They participated in these interventions alongside the military firefighters and members of the SVSU from the communes where the interventions took place.

Such interventions are difficult because, most of the time, fire trucks cannot reach the area of fire outbreaks due to hard-to-reach areas. Also, in many areas there are no sources of water supply, and the surface on which the fire manifests itself is very extensive.

In some cases, citizens burn stubble, household waste or dry vegetation, without ensuring supervision, without ensuring fire protection measures, in windy conditions or placing piles to be destroyed by burning near farms, animal shelters, fodder warehouses, housing or the forest fund. This leads to the rapid spread of the fire to households and their annexes, with significant damage and even loss of human life being recorded!
