Nicu Covaci, brain surgery last month
On March 22, Nicu Covaci underwent emergency brain surgery at the Timişoara County Hospital. According to doctors, the problems started about two weeks ago, when the Phoenix frontman started to feel his face go numb, and then his vision began to be affected.
Then, the Phoenix singer decided to have an MRI, and the results indicated a serious problem. The diagnosis given by the specialists from the Department of Neurosurgery of the Timisoara County Hospital, led by doctor Horia Pleş, was “expansive intracranial process”. Then, after an operation that lasted about 6 hours, a brain tumor was removed.
Earlier this month, Phoenix band members announced that Nicu Covaci is under treatment “and under the best possible care”, but “the news is not good at all” and that the diagnosis cannot be made public.
Nicu Covaci turned 77 on April 19.
