​Florin Piersic has a generalized infection (septicemia) that can endanger his life, Florin Crișan, the manager of the Heart Institute in Cluj-Napoca, told HotNews.ro on Wednesday. The 88-year-old actor was transferred last night from Cluj to the Matei Balș Institute of Infectious Diseases in Bucharest, on a SMURD plane.

Florin Piersic “suffers from septicemia, it is a generalized infection in the body, which can put his life in danger”, said Florin Crisan, the manager of the Heart Institute in Cluj-Napoca, for HotNews.ro.

According to the doctors from Cluj, the actor got infected, most likely, from a branula.

If he gets over this infection successfully following the medical treatment that is being administered to him, the actor will be transferred from the Matei Balș Institute of Infectious Diseases to another hospital in Bucharest, for the evaluation of his orthopedic prosthesis, the manager of the Institute also stated Hearts from Cluj.

Generalized infection in the blood, most likely taken from a branu

“The situation was of a patient with septicemia, with a generalized infection in the blood, with a complex antibiotic treatment, but who had two particularities, namely two prosthetic areas: knee prosthesis and prosthetic material in the heart, i.e. the pacemaker with the two probes his. It is a well-known principle in medicine that prosthetic materials cannot defend themselves, they do not have sufficient immunity against a severe infection, in other words, in those areas bacterial germs colonize and evade antibiotic treatment, so a general principle says that they should extracted all the prosthetic materials to allow the antibiotic treatment to act against the germs that cause the septicemic infection. The knee prosthesis should have been removed. Of course, it is an action that we cannot undertake, it does not belong to our specialty, but at the same time, unfortunately, as surely could be expected, the pacemaker probes also became infected, probes that are directly in heart,” explained Dr. Horia Roşianu from the Heart Institute in Cluj-Napoca, in a press conference on Wednesday, according to News.ro.

He also specified that, in order to solve the problem of infection, it was necessary to remove the knee prosthesis and the heart pacemaker: “On the night of Friday to Saturday, we returned to the country as a family, on Saturday morning, together with the manager, together with Mr. Doctor Ştef, the head of intensive therapy, together with an orthopedic colleague from the Military Hospital and with other colleagues from cardiology, holding a multidisciplinary work session, we made a thorough visit to Mr. Florin Piersic and our conclusion was very clear the secondary foci of infection, the knee prosthesis and/or the probes and the pacemaker must be removed. Both should be removed so that you can solve the problem of the septicemic infection”, explained the doctor.

For his part, the medical director of the Heart Institute in Cluj, Prof. Dr. Adrian Molnar, says that the actor got infected, most likely, from a branula: “I was contacted by the manager of the Military Hospital in Cluj, 7 days ago , when I was told of his illness and that the infection in the knee had spread to the heart. We were asked to do an evaluation. He arrived at the Cluj Military Hospital following an infection that he contracted from, probably, an infusion, a branula that was put on him a few days before. Everything is probable, because the exact starting point is not known. The master complained of knee pain, developed a fever and was taken to the Military Hospital (ed. on April 17), where he received the necessary treatment. When he arrived at our hospital, on April 29, to be evaluated, he was seen by sonographers and diagnosed with the presence of an infection at the level of the stimulation probes, implanted in the heart 15 years ago. No immediate surgical intervention was required. We assessed the situation and thought that after we would do a proper load of antibiotics, those probes would also be removed from his heart”, said the medical director of the Cluj Heart Institute on Wednesday, quoted by ȘtirideCluj.ro.

Matei Balș Institute: Piersic’s evolution “may be unpredictable, given his age and comorbidities”

The actor Florin Piersic is “in a complex evaluation related to the infectious process” after being hospitalized at the Institute of Infectious Diseases “Matei Balş” in Bucharest, where he was transferred last night from the Heart Institute in Cluj by a SMURD plane, the unit announced on Wednesday medical.

The actor’s condition is stable at the moment, but his evolution “can be unpredictable, given his age and comorbidities”, state the representatives of the medical unit.

“Master Florin Piersic wants to convey good thoughts to all his admirers and to assure them that he is in good hands.” Starting from the moment of hospitalization, May 7 at 10:30 p.m., Mr. Florin Piersic is undergoing a complex evaluation related to the infectious process, which requires a multidisciplinary approach (orthopedic, cardiological)”, the Matei Balș Institute in Bucharest reported on Wednesday, in – a statement.

The patient is stable at this moment and is under strict medical supervision: “We cannot make statements regarding the evolution, taking into account age and comorbidities”, the representatives of the Matei Balș Institute also say.

Florin Piersic was transferred, on Tuesday evening, from Cluj-Napoca to Bucharest, with a SMURD plane, which was in Hungary for a NATO exercise.

Florin Piersic, aged 88, underwent knee surgery at the Cluj-Napoca Military Hospital, later being transferred to the Cluj-Napoca Heart Institute to be monitored by doctors, having a pacemaker.

The actor underwent surgery after he was hurt at the end of a performance, and doctors found that he had an infection in his knee, which later spread.
