Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini on Wednesday labeled French President Emmanuel Macron as “dangerous” and said he should “go find himself” after the Elysee leader again raised the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine to to fight against Russia.

A regular of statements against the pro-Ukraine policy of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the League (extreme right) reacted in front of the press against recent statements by Emmanuel Macron and former Prime Minister Mario Monti, according to which it might be “necessary”. at some point, to send troops to Ukraine.

“They have to go and look for themselves,” said Italy’s deputy prime minister, close to the leader of the French extreme right, Marine Le Pen.

“Those who are of this opinion and say it as if it were something normal, and this applies to Macron and Monti, are dangerous,” Salvini also said, according to AFP, taken by News.ro.

“If they want to fight so much, then go to Ukraine tomorrow. They are waiting for them”, added the Italian deputy prime minister.

In March, Salvini accused Macron of “representing a danger to our country and our continent”.

Salvini: “Putin invited to dialogue”

Matteo Salvini welcomed, instead, the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the investiture, on Tuesday, at the Kremlin, in the fifth mandate.

“Yesterday (Tuesday), Putin, among other things, invited to dialogue and I hope that 2024 will be the year of peace, not of soldiers going to die in Ukraine,” he declared.

Matteo Salvini survived at the beginning of April a censure motion submitted by the opposition, which reproached the League for not breaking ties with Vladimir Putin and his United Russia Party, after the invasion of Ukraine.

A longtime admirer of Putin, he signed a five-year deal with United Russia on March 6, 2017, which was automatically extended to 2022.

He condemned Russia’s invasion of its neighbor, but made controversial statements about Vladimir Putin’s re-election.

“When a people votes, they are always right,” he said.

He also made controversial statements about the death of Aleksey Navalny, Putin’s main opponent, saying that Russian “doctors and judges” are the ones who shed light on the circumstances of his death.

“Salvini is very worried about his future in government”

The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, in turn the Deputy Prime Minister, urged to comment on these statements, limited himself to recalling the fact that Rome does not intend to send soldiers to Ukraine.

The MEP from La République en marche, Sandro Gozi, believes that “Salvini is very worried about his future in the government, to the extent that he does not miss any opportunity to become a spokesman for the Kremlin”.

The League, the European ally of the National Rally Party (RN, extreme right) from France and the Alternative Party for Germany (AfD, extreme right) is losing ground and is credited with 8-8.5% in their intentions to win the European elections in June .
