In another village, another school suffers the same fate. The building is about to collapse. The walls are cracked and can be peeled with your free hand. Even sadder is the fact that the only classrooms that have remained functional are used once every four years, and then for the polling station.
“They were closed due to the lack of students. Of course, it is a general problem in all rural areas,” said Madalina Ungureanu, the mayor of Bălești.
The authorities want to bring these schools back to life so that students no longer have to travel tens of kilometers every day.
“It is full of vegetation and unkempt; the playgrounds are in an advanced state of decay. The school is the same: it has never been renovated.
I would like to open all the schools in Balesti commune. We are still neighboring Targu Jiu, it would be a shame for parents from this commune to transport their children in the morning, to drop them off at schools in the city”, says Daniel Horcea, candidate for Bălești City Hall.
