The project – pilot System for the protection of passengers in metro stations by installing safety gates at the platform, placed by a company producing this equipment, located at the Berceni station platform on line 1 (direction Berceni – Pipera), provides a only gate installed, the Minister of Transport said in an answer to the questions of USR deputy for Vâlcea Ion Marian Lazăr.
“At this moment the equipment has been approved by the bodies authorized and responsible for such products. There is a period of supervision and testing in operation, which involves the closing – opening of the gates at the same time as the closing – opening of the doors of the subway”, said the Head of Transport.
The USR representative also asked what are the reasons why the procedure to equip all stations in Bucharest with glass panels and automatic doors at the edge of the platforms has not been started until now.
Funding for subway security gates uncertain
“The costs necessary to start the investment and subsequently for the maintenance activity, the decrease in income generated by the pandemic period, combined with a significant increase in general costs and especially those with utilities, have influenced and continue to influence the decisions regarding the investment objectives, for the realization of which must go through the legal stages, related to securing financing, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility, procurement procedure”, replied Grindeanu.
He assured that, within Metrorex, solutions are still being identified to increase the safety level of passengers, both in the public spaces of the stations and in the trains.

Metrorex announced in July 2022 this pilot project for the construction of safety gates on the platform, in the Berceni station, on line 1 (direction Berceni – Pipera).
And six years ago, Metrorex announced the start of discussions for one pilot project to install sliding doors at the platform in Victoriei 1 station and that he did not have a certain source of financing to make such an investment in all metro stations.
In order to increase the safety of citizens on the subway, the TIAB Association – the VINCI LOGIC IT CONSULT SRL Group had proposed to Metrorex the implementation of a “system to protect passengers in the subway stations by installing platforms with sliding doors on the platform”, in the Victoriei 1 subway station, they said in spring 2018 Metrorex representatives.
