Israel is preparing for a possible major war with Lebanon. Army trains for ‘various battle scenarios in the north’

The Israeli army announced on Friday that its soldiers are training for the possibility of a major war with its northern neighbor, Lebanon.

The army stated that the reservists of a brigade participated in various exercises during the week to “accelerate the preparation for an operation in this sense”, according to dpa, cited by Agerpres.

The aim was operational training and preparation for “various combat scenarios in the north”.

The exercises carried out in Galilee, in the north of the country, simulated combat situations in Lebanon.

Infantry and armored troops trained together with soldiers from logistics and communications units to operate together in rugged terrain. Other troops trained with the air force to “prepare for a scenario of rapid air resupply of ground forces operating in enemy territory.”

For over seven months, exchanges of fire have been taking place in the border area between Israel and Lebanon. The Lebanese Hezbollah militia has launched rockets and anti-tank shells into northern Israel since October 8.

Israel uses airstrikes and artillery to combat Hezbollah positions. According to a United Nations Security Council resolution, Hezbollah positions should not be so close to the border.

Months of mutual attacks have already caused massive destruction in villages on both sides of the border. About 150,000 people on both sides of the border had to leave their homes.
