An armed incident took place on Tuesday at a school in Vantaa, Finland, the Finnish police announced in a statement, according to the Reuters agency. Vantaa is a city that is part of the Helsinki metropolitan area, being north of the Finnish capital.

“Police are on the scene and investigating the incident. Passers-by are asked not to approach the area and stay indoors. The door must not be opened to foreigners,” the police stated in a first statement regarding this case.
Several people were injured in the armed incident on Tuesday morning, a suspect was arrested, Finnish police later said.
According to the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, the gunshots were fired at the Viertola school, where about 800 students from grades I to IX study. There are about 90 employees in this educational unit.
