Israeli security forces arrested the sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tel Sheva, the Jerusalem Post reports. She is suspected of having ties to Hamas and being involved in inciting and supporting terrorism.
An Israeli police statement identified the detained suspect as a close relative of a senior member of Hamas. The Israeli press specified that it is Zebah Abdel Salem Haniyeh, 57 years old.
The operation, dubbed “Early Dawn”, was carried out in collaboration with the Shin Bet and culminated in the arrest of Haniyeh in an early morning raid by police, border police, the IDF and the Israeli police air unit.
During the raid on Haniyeh’s housing complex, security forces allegedly found documents, means of communication, phones and other evidence indicating his participation in serious security crimes.
According to the police, Haniyeh is due to be brought before Beersheba District Court on Monday to request an extension of her detention.
