The victims were taken to area hospitals after police heard gunshots near the Circle Center Mall on Saturday night, The Guardian reports.

Seven children between the ages of 12 and 17 were injured in one of the latest mass shootings in the US, which erupted outside a downtown Indianapolis mall late Saturday night, authorities said.

Police officers patrolling the area heard gunshots near the Circle Center mall shortly after 11:30 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Tanya Terry said.

Officers found “a large group of young men” at the scene, six of whom had gunshot wounds and were transported to area hospitals, Terry said during a news conference at the scene early Sunday morning.

One of the victims was upgraded from critical to stable condition. The other victims were all listed in stable condition, said Terry, who could not immediately provide the sexes of the victims.

A seventh child with a gunshot wound was separately taken to a hospital and was in stable condition, she said.

“Once again, we have a situation where young people are solving their conflicts with firearms, and that has to stop,” Terry said. “Conflict should not lead to someone pulling out a gun and trying to resolve it. The consequences are eternal.”

Investigators believe multiple weapons were used during the shootings, Terry said.

No arrests were made and police did not immediately have any suspects, she said.
