Although it seems like autumn has just set in, winter is right around the corner and the countdown to the official opening of the ski season has begun.
Experienced skiers know that it’s absolutely necessary to wear special equipment for their own safety, but beginners may be a little confused about the essentials for a skier.
What does a complete ski equipment contain
You have to keep in mind that you will be exposed to very cold temperatures for hours, so it is important to have clothes that keep you warm. As a result, you must have three layers of clothes, like this:
- First layer: clothes that allow the body to ventilate and eliminate sweat
- Second layer: warm clothes, for example fleece or fleece
- The last layer: the ski suit
You have to take into account that you will pick up quite a lot of speed on the slope and that the risk of injury is high, even more so for beginners. It is precisely for this reason that the protective helmet is necessary.
The light is very strong on the slopes because the snow reflects the sunlight. If you don’t wear ski goggles, visibility is reduced, thus increasing the risk of injury.
Specialists recommend that these glasses have a one-piece lens, as large as possible and made of plastic, be reflective and offer UV protection. Glasses with orange lenses are the most suitable because they can be used regardless of the weather outside, offering better visibility both in the sun and in snow or fog.
Booties have the role of fixing the ski in the leg. You need to make sure that you choose the right size so that the foot sits in a correct position. It is also important that they are thermally insulated.
Skis and ski poles
It is very important to choose the right skis in terms of size, height and experience. As for the ski poles, they must be the right size according to the height of the skier and the size of the skis.
