Seven earthquakes occurred in Italy on Thursday, September 22, 2022, six of them with a magnitude of more than 3.0 degrees, and the seventh with a magnitude of more than 4.0 degrees, as can be seen on the Institute’s official website National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) of this country.
Fortunately, no casualties or considerable property damage have been reported so far, but people are scared and many of them came out into the streets when they felt the ground shaking.
According to the quoted source, a first earthquake occurred at 04:21 local time this morning, with a magnitude of 3.6 degrees and the epicenter 4 km south of Paternò, a town in the province of Catania, in Sicily. The earthquake was detected by specialists at a depth of 10 km.
The second earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.9, was felt at 12:24 and had its epicenter 4 km South-West of Folignano, located in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region. The depth at which it was recorded is 24 km.
Just one minute after the 12:24 earthquake, an aftershock occurred, at the same location and depth, but with a magnitude of 3.6 this time.
Less than two hours later, at 14:18, the ground also shook under the sea, with INGV specialists detecting an earthquake of 3.2 degrees in the Costa Calabra area, near the province of Reggio Calabria in the Calabria region. The depth at which it occurred is 55 km.

At 15:39, INGV also says, a new earthquake was felt in Italy, this time measuring 4.1 degrees and with the epicenter 2 km west of the town of Bargagli in the province of Genoa, in Liguria. The depth was set by specialists at 10 km, in this case.
A sixth earthquake occurred at 17:47 in the Emilia-Romagna region, more precisely, 8 km west of Pievepelago, a town in the province of Modena. This time, the recorded depth was 14 km.
Today’s seventh earthquake, among those with a magnitude above 3.0 degrees, was recorded by INGV 8 km North-East of Fosciandora, a town in the province of Lucca, in the Tuscany region. The depth in this case was 13 km, experts claim.
There were no casualties or major material damage, but following the earthquake in the province of Genoa, the statue of an angel on the facade of a church fell to the ground in the town of Pieve Ligure, according to what was reported by the local newspaper Genova Today.
As a precautionary measure, students were evacuated from schools in the areas where the strong earthquakes occurred, inform various sources in the Italian press.
