Tragedy on the road: a 21-year-old man died even on his birthday. The boy had celebrated with his friends at the discotheque and, well drunk, got behind the wheel. After not even a few kilometers he ran into a pole and overturned. His drinking buddies refused to get into the car with him and thus saved their lives. The accident was filmed, but be careful, the images have a strong emotional impact.

At dawn, after a night of fun, Florin got behind the wheel and stepped on the accelerator pedal. On the images captured by a surveillance camera, you can see how the car comes at speed, enters the opposite direction and destroys everything in its path.

Andreea Filip, Observer reporter: The young man was coming from Mihai Viteazu and heading towards Constanţa. In this dangerous curve he lost control of the steering wheel, crashed into this electricity pole which he put on the ground and destroyed. Following the particularly violent impact, the car rolled several times.

The young man flew from the car a few meters away.

Witness: A loud bang, I got scared. I left the house. When I saw the car… here, it was overturned, he was thrown from the car.

The police discovered that the 21-year-old boy spent the night in a disco in the Mihai Viteazu commune, where he celebrated his name day. He allegedly consumed several glasses of alcohol before getting behind the wheel. His friends refused at the last moment to go with him, especially because he had a mania for speed. Relatives contradict him.

Relative of the victim: He was probably tired, lost control, went into the pillar and from there into the gates. He wasn’t used to going fast, but he was probably in a hurry. And at 5:00 a.m., sleep had probably stolen him.

It’s not the first time that fun nights end tragically. In February, another 23-year-old man lost his life after spending an entire night drinking alcohol in a club and getting behind the wheel. He entered a roundabout in Constanța and was thrown from the car because he was not wearing a seat belt.

And at the end of last year, a young lifeguard died after plunging over another roundabout. The speedometer needle stopped at 170 kilometers per hour. In 2023, over 1,500 people died on Romanian roads and another 3,500 were seriously injured.
