Hamas Releases Proof-of-Life Video of Hostages: Families Demand Urgent Negotiations and Action

New Delhi, April 28, 2024: Hamas has released a video showcasing the first evidence of the lives of two additional hostages held in Gaza, BBC and other international media reported.

In the footage, Omri Miran, held for 202 days, and Keith Siegel, mentioning the recent Passover holiday, suggest the clips were filmed recently, shedding light on their ongoing captivity. Both individuals were captured during Hamas attacks on October 7th 2023.

In response to the video, the families of Miran and Siegel have reiterated their unwavering commitment to securing the safe return of their loved ones, emphasizing the urgent need for the Israeli government to negotiate a new hostage release agreement. This plea for action comes amid ongoing deliberations regarding Israel’s latest trick proposal, with Egypt dispatching a delegation to Israel to invigorate stalled negotiations.

BBC reported that at a recent demonstration in Tel Aviv, Dani Miran, the father of Omri Miran, delivered a speech, urging the government, including specific ministries, to take decisive steps towards securing a viable hostage deal. His emotional plea resonated with the crowd, underscoring the widespread desire for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The decision to publicly display the hostage video in Hostage Square marks a departure from the norm, signaling the gravity of the situation and the urgency of the hostages’ plight. The Hostages Families Forum Headquarters has emphasized the critical importance of swiftly approving a deal, citing the latest video as a compelling reason to expedite negotiations. This latest development follows another proof-of-life video featuring Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin.

Mr. Siegel and Mr. Miran, speaking in the video released by Hamas, issued a direct appeal to Israel, calling for a ceasefire and the release of hostages to end their prolonged ordeal.

Despite continued indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, previous proposals have been met with rejection.

Meanwhile, Israel’s reported preparations for an offensive in Rafah have raised concerns about the potential humanitarian consequences of escalating hostilities. The protracted conflict has exacted a heavy toll, claimed numerous lives and inflicted widespread suffering in Gaza.

However, a glimmer of hope emerged with a deal brokered in November, resulting in the release of some hostages.
