The regulation provides for the elimination of additional costs for telephone calls initiated within the EU.

If international calls within the EU are currently capped at a maximum of 19 cents/minute, the new regulation provides that this additional cost will be completely eliminated, thus reaching the same price as local calls. This measure comes in addition to the European policy on roaming, which only applies when a person is traveling in the EU, not when calling from their own country.

At the same time, the regulation includes measures for high-speed internet coverage of at least 1 Gb/s throughout the European territory, including rural areas which in many member states, including Romania, continue to be poorly connected.
