Football. Today the quarters of the county phase of the Romanian Cup are played

The county phase of the Romanian Football Cup has arrived before the quarter-finals. The four matches are played today, starting at 17:30.

Derby in Orăștie

The games are played in one leg, on the ground of the lower rated team. Undoubtedly, the derby of the phase is the one from Orăștie, where two valuable teams from League 4 Hunedoara will meet. Face to face will be the hosts from Dacia Orăștie, and the winner of the previous edition, Gloria Geoagiu, in the game being, in addition to qualifying for the semifinals, also many local prides. Those from Orăștie arrived here after winning the preliminary group, while Geoagiu was directly qualified for the quarter-finals. Another match in which two teams from League 4 will meet is the one in Călan, in which the host team, Victoria, will receive the reply from Aurul Brad, the guests being seen with the first chance, but the Romanian Cup is a competition of surprises . The team from the north of the county, relegated at the end of last season, from League 3, won the group it was part of, and the team from Călan reached the quarterfinals after finishing second in the first phase and then, in the last dam, by fellow echelon Inter Petrila.

Two teams from League 5

In the other quarters, two teams from League 5 are also involved. At Ciula Mică, DMO Răchitova will face Șoimul Băița, from League 4. The hosts qualified after winning the groups, and the visiting team, after a second place in the initial phase, it passed, at the barrier, another team from League 5, Zarandu Crișcior, the confrontation seemed to be open to any result. Finally, the other team from League 5, Ponorul Vața, will receive a visit from Minerul Lupeni, and here the guests are given as favorites by the paper calculation. If those from Lupeni, the finalists of the last edition, are only now entering the competition, those from Vața won the preliminary group in which they performed. If, after 90 minutes, the score is tied, two extra-time periods of quarter of an hour each will be played and, if the tie persists, the winner will be decided after the execution of penalty kicks.

The semi-finals, in a double leg

According to the draw made before the start of the competition by its organizers, those from Asociația Județeana de Futbol Hunedoara (AJF) Hunedoara, in one of the semi-finals the winners of the matches Dacia Orăștie – Gloria Geoagiu and Victoria Călan – Aurul Brad will meet, and in the second, the winners of the confrontations Ponorul Vața – Minerul Lupeni and, respectively, DMO Răchitova – Șoimul Băița. The penultimate act of the Hunedoara county phase of the Romanian Football Cup will be played in a double leg, the round on May 8, from 18:00, and the return leg on May 15, from 17:30, the order to be announced by those from AJF. In the final, logically, the winners of the two semi-finals will play. The final is scheduled for June 8, time and location to be determined later.
