AUR Senator Sorin Mateescu draws attention to the catastrophic situation at Mangalia Naval Shipyard

--

The situation in Mangalia Naval Shipyard is alarming, and the open letter addressed to Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu by the employees clearly emphasizes the seriousness of the problem. The 1500 people who remain in this construction site face the imminent risk of temporary interruption of the activity, and the workload registers a drastic decrease. As a senator from Constanța, I reacted, through the specific parliamentary means, to the fate of these workers and the impact that has on the local community. It is crucial that the Government of Romania pay due attention to this situation and take concrete measures to protect jobs and rehabilitate the shipyard in Mangalia, says AUR senator Sorin Mateescu in a political statement.

The fact that Damen Holding BV announced its withdrawal from the Mangalia business imposes an increased responsibility on the Romanian state, which is the majority shareholder. In the absence of funding and support measures, there is a real risk that this important strategic objective will fall into a shadow cone, with devastating consequences for employees and the local economy. Therefore, we request the Romanian Government to urgently initiate discussions with the workers’ representatives from Mangalia Naval Shipyard, to identify the necessary solutions to overcome this crisis. It is essential for the state to ensure the operational and managerial management of the site, to find new sources of financing and to guarantee the protection of jobs, says Mateescu.
