A representative of the Russian occupation in the Ukrainian region of Lugansk (east), Valeri Ceaika, was killed in the explosion of a car bomb in Starobilsk, the pro-Russian authorities announced, AFP reports, News.ro transmits.

He was killed in the “detonation of an unidentified device” in the car, the Local Investigation Committee announced on Monday.

An investigation was opened regarding a “terrorist act”, according to the committee, which specifies that the circumstances of the incident are about to be established.

In the past, car bomb attacks attributed to Ukraine have targeted, on several occasions, pro-Russian representatives in the occupied Ukrainian regions.

“Our comrade is dead”, announced on Telegram the head of the Starobilsk municipal administration Vladimir Chernev, adding that an investigation is underway.

Valeri Ceaika held a management position in the administrative services of the Starobilsk district.

Luhansk is one of the four regions whose annexation was claimed by Moscow in September 2022, along with Deonetsk (east) and Zapopo and Kherson (south).

In December, the pro-Russian representative of the occupation was killed in Luhansk, in the explosion of an “unidentified device” placed in a car.

Moscow accuses Ukraine of being behind several assassinations or attempted assassinations on Russian soil since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
