Russian rescuers on Monday ended operations aimed at finding 13 miners who disappeared underground following a landslide more than two weeks ago in the Russian Far East, because they did not reach the place where the miners were , AFP reports.
These miners specialized in digging tunnels were blocked at a depth of approximately 125 meters by a landslide, on March 18, in a gold mine in the Amur region, reports News.ro.

Hundreds of rescuers sent to the site removed alluvium and dug tunnels to the trapped miners, but “on April 1, the decision was made to stop the rescue operation at the Pionier Mine”, announces the company that manages the mine, Pokrovski Rudnik, quoted by the Russian news agency Intefax.

According to the company, “the drilling results showed that the galleries where the miners could have been are full of masses of rock and water”.
This situation put the rescuers and mine employees involved in the search operations for the miners “at risk of death”, announced Pokrovski Rudnik.

The authorities previously announced that rescue operations were complicated by the permanent entry of underground water into the mine.
