A justified increase? Yes, given the latest developments on the oil market, where the black gold has been maintaining an upward trend for several days, which was accentuated against the background of the attacks launched by the Ukrainians on some refineries in Russia, but also the encouraging data on the production in China.

Under these conditions, Brent crude oil, extracted from the North Sea, rose to $87.29/barrel, after rising by 2.4 percent last week. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude traded at $83.48/bar after a 3.2% gain last week.

Drone strikes in Ukraine have knocked several Russian refineries out of service, which will likely lead to a reduction in Russian fuel exports. “Geopolitical risks to crude and heavy commodity supplies add to strong demand fundamentals in the second quarter,” Energy Aspects analysts said in a note.

As a result of the attacks, nearly 1 million barrels per day of Russian crude processing capacity remained idle with a major impact on exports of high-sulfur fuel oil, which is processed at refineries in China and India.
