“Our response began today. It will continue according to the schedule and in the places we will decide,” said Friday the president of the United States, Joe Biden, who launched retaliatory strikes against pro-Iranian forces in Syria and Iraq, reports AFP.

The US military’s Middle East Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it had carried out “airstrikes in Iraq and Syria”, saying it targeted pro-Iranian groups and personnel from the Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

“Airstrikes involved more than 125 precision munitions,” CENTCOM said in a statement, adding that they targeted more than 85 targets, including command and intelligence centers, as well as drone and missile storage infrastructure belonging to militias and forces. Iranian forces “that allowed attacks against US and coalition forces”.

The operation lasted about thirty minutes and was “a success”, said the White House.

“We warned the Iraqi government before the attacks” carried out in Iraq against targets linked to Iran, assured Friday the spokesman of the White House, John Kirby.

“We don’t want to see another attack against American positions or soldiers in the region,” he added. John Kirby reiterated that the United States does not want a “war” with Iran. The spokesman specified that Washington had “no communication”, be it informal or indirect, with Tehran after the attack that killed three American soldiers in Jordan last Sunday.
