A well-known gangster from Constanța was killed, on a street in Malta, by three members of a bloody clan from Bucharest. The murdered man was wanted by the British authorities, being known in Romania as a recovery man, but also as a robber.

“John Englezu” or John Rivas, as he is known in the underworld, left Bucharest for Malta together with three members of the Chira clan, to recover a sum of money.

There they quarreled, had a heated argument with one of the clansmen, who later attacked John Englezu and stabbed him to death. More precisely, he stuck the knife in his heart, and two hours after the incident, John Englezu died.

The man is known in the underworld because he was a bodyguard at girls’ clubs in Constanța, and later became a recovery worker.

He was also convicted by both the Romanian and British authorities, because in 2008 he was involved in two robberies in London, one of which was particularly violent, a man dying after John the Englishman disfigured him.

In 2013, UK authorities issued an arrest warrant for the man, but failed to extradite him. And yet he was sentenced to life in prison.

In 2015, he was also arrested by the Romanian police for stealing 100,000 euros from a man’s house and torturing him and his friend.
