The FIFA World Cup in Qatar begins on Sunday, with the match between the host country and Ecuador. The final tournament starts on November 20, 2020, with the last act of the competition taking place on December 18.
The first edition of the World Cup that takes place in the winter has France, the holder of the title, Brazil, Argentina or Portugal as favourites, and now the predictions have appeared.
After EA Sports made a simulation in the game FIFA 23, where Argentina came out the winner, Oxford researchers developed a new system where the video game makers contradicted them.
Oxford University has revealed who will win the World Championship in Qatar! What is the prediction of the researchers for the final tournament
Researchers from Oxford University have created a mathematical system through which they were able to find out the winner of the World Championship in Qatar. According to those from RMC Sport, the mathematicians relied on data and statistics, and Brazil came out the winner.
On the University’s official Twitter account, researchers posted the prediction that makes Neymar the world champion. According to them, the Brazilians would manage to get the first place in the group, to beat Uruguay, Spain, and then Argentina in the semi-final. The final would be played between Tite’s national team and Belgium, with the South Americans winning by around 62%.
“My model predicts a victory for Brazil, but nothing is guaranteed. It is only the country that has the highest chances (14.72%) of winning. Even if it’s the best model, it’s statistically unlikely to be perfect, but it’s better than other alternative scenarios,” says Joshua Bull, the mathematician who created the model.
