Samsung has released several firmware updates for the Galaxy S24 to fix reported bugs and update the security patch to the latest version available.
However, updates have been insufficient to fix the image processing issues that have affected the performance of your phone’s versatile camera.
Samsung wants to improve its latest flagship
Samsung is allegedly working on a big camera upgrade for its 2024 flagship, which is expected to launch in April.
Many Galaxy S24 users have reported on Reddit that they have received the AXCA firmware update, which is around 800MB in size.
Samsung’s release notes accompanying the update only mention the April 2024 security patch, alongside the usual stability improvements.
It can be said that Samsung has once again outdone itself in rolling out the latest monthly security patch for its flagship devices.
A detailed list of camera-specific improvements is available on Samsung’s South Korean forums.
What could the improvements be?
Changes include camera processing optimizations, low-light imaging and color in the ExpertRAW app, as well as improved text clarity when zooming in photo mode. Another improvement is the addition of a new 480 x 480 resolution for Instant Slow Mo.
The firmware may also contain other changes, especially in terms of image processing, but these have not yet been detailed.
You can check if AXCA firmware is available for your Galaxy S24 from Settings > Software Update > Download & Install.
Don’t expect the Galaxy S24’s camera performance to improve dramatically, but it will be better anyway.
So if you’re not too happy with the photos your Galaxy S24 takes, don’t expect the latest firmware to radically change that.
A more significant camera-focused update should roll out around the end of April, which is rumored to improve white balance and telephoto image quality.
