The Huawei P70, the next high-end smartphone series from Huawei, might be launched very soon, at least in China. As the moment of unveiling is imminent, we are starting to learn more and more about these devices. For example, we already have information about their performance, and tests in GeekBench 6 prove that there will be differences between the three variants of the series. We are talking about what appear to be tests with the Huawei P70, P70 Pro and, the top model, comparable to the Ultra variants of other manufacturers, the P70 Art.

Tests in GeekBench suggest the use of Kirin processors

According to information from China, the Huawei P70 models could be officially announced as soon as tomorrow, April 2, 2024. They will be launched exclusively in China, as happened with the Huawei Mate 60 series, and the reason seems to be similar: they will use processors Kirin, which could use technologies that Huawei should not have access to, such as 7 or 5nm lithography. We don’t know yet if there will be a variant with Snapdragon but without 5G, as we have seen in the last few years.

The tests reveal results for the ALT-AL10 models, i.e. the base model, P70, ALN-AL80, the “Pro” variant, and MNA-AL00, the P70 Art model. For the first two models, the results are within the expected range, as they seem to use the same Kirin 9000S processor that the Mate 60 variants used last year. There is even a score difference between them, probably due to a different cooling system.

We got 1,243 points in Single-Core and 3,840 points in Multi-Core on the “standard” P70 and 1,348 in Single-Core and 4,114 in Multi-Core on the P70 Pro. Both benefit from the same Kirin 9000S, with 12 cores, of which two are high-performance cores at 2.62 GHz, six are high-performance cores at 2.15 GHz and four are efficient cores at 1.53 GHz.

However, the Huawei P70 Art is equipped with a more powerful processor, probably a Kirin 9100, which benefits from a uc 8-core configuration: 1 high performance at 3.19 GHz, three medium performance at 2.75 GHz and four efficient cores at 2.02 GHz. All three Huawei P70 models are equipped with 12 GB of RAM memory.

However, if we look at the results in the context of other recent smartphone launches, we can see that these phones are not exactly high performers. These have CPU performance similar to what we see on the latest mid-range devices, or a flagship from a few years ago is good.

However, Huawei seems to think that this level of performance is enough for a good user experience, probably based on the software optimization of Harmony OS.

In other respects, these phones should be comparable to the rest of the top phones.

The launch of the Huawei P70 could take place soon, with prices between 650 and 1,300 euros

The “standard” Huawei P70 is expected with a 6.58″ OLED screen with 120Hz LTPO technology and will use a 50-megapixel main camera with an OmniVision50H sensor. We don’t know much about its secondary cameras, but we do know that it will integrate a 30 megapixel selfie, 5,000 mAh battery and 88W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The P70 Pro, P70 Pro+ and P70 Art models will, however, be equipped with a superior screen, 6.76″, also OLED with LTPO. The P70 Pro will use the same OmniVision sensor on the main camera, but the Pro+ and Art will benefit from a Sony IMX989, the 1” sensor we’ve seen on Xiaomi devices in the past. The 13-megapixel front camera will be present on all these models. And in terms of the battery we see some variations: 5,200 mAh on the P70 Pro and 5,100 mAh on the P70 Pro+ and Art. However, they all charge at 88W wired and 80W wireless.

According to “unofficial” information, prices start at 4,999 yuan (640 euros) for the “standard” P70 with 512 GB storage, 6,999 yuan for the P70 Pro with 256 GB storage (900 euros), 8,999 yuan for the P70 Pro+ model with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage (1,150 eur) and 9,999 yuan for the P70 Art with the same configuration (1,280 eur).
