By qualifying for the Romanian Cup final, Corvinul Hunedoara ticked off the most important domestic achievement in its history, taking into account that the current League 2 club is the successor to the one founded in 1921.
The “Golden Generation” prepared by Mircea Lucescu, with Florea Dumitrache, Romulus Gabor, Ioan Andone, Mircea Rednic, Michael Klein, Florea Văetuș or Ioan Petcu among the protagonists, ranked 3rd in Division A and qualified for the UEFA Cup, but a cup final he never played.

Corvinul played two more semi-finals of the Cup, in 1983 and 1984, but lost the meetings with Politehnica Timișoara and Dinamo, while Florin Maxim’s current team got past FC Voluntari (score 3-1) and faced SC Oțelul Galatians with the trophy on the table, in Sibiu.
The management of the club makes an overtime bow with the game in the company of Dorinel Munteanu’s band and will print the letter H on the “unique shirts” with which Manolache, Neacșa or Coman will play on May 15. The coach of Corvin has already drawn the coordinates on which he wants the final to be played on May 15.
“It’s a final. That saying: finals are not played, they are won! And why not? If we believed until this moment, because we marked this time on the calendar, on May 15, since we started the Cup. It was the only goal we could relate to. It’s good to have dreams, what are you fighting for, and that’s why, until that match, on the 15th, in Sibiu, we have a few more matches waiting for us, because it won’t be easy, mentally”said Florin Maxim, also referring to the fact that, as is known, the Hunedoers do not have the right to promotion from League 2 at the end of the current season.
