Six Nike Air Jordan basketball shoes worn by former NBA superstar Michael Jordan in the 1990s have been sold at auction for the sum of eight million dollars, a record for this unique lot, announced the auction house Sotherby’s, cited by AFP.

It’s about six different shoes (and not three pairs) that Michael Jordan donated to a Chicago Bulls communications officer after each of his decisive games that allowed the “bulls” to win six NBA titles , in the periods 1991-1993 and 1996-1998.

Record for Michael Jordan

The purchase price reached at the auction organized by Sotheby’s in New York, eight million dollars, approximately 7.5 million euros, is a record for this atypical lot and the second ever recorded for the sale of sports collectibles that belonged to him to Michael Jordan.

This “Dynasty Collection” reached the “peak” price of these sports collectibles, Sotherby’s stated in a press release, without providing, as usual, any information about the buyer of this lot.

In April 2023, French-Israeli tycoon Patrick Drahi’s company auctioned a pair of basketball shoes worn by Michael Jordan during his last NBA Finals with the Chicago Bulls in 1998 for $2.2 million.

The six basketball shoes sold on Friday are the Air Jordan VI (1991), VII (1992), VIII (1993), XI (1996), XII (1997) and an Air Jordan XIV (1998). They all bear the signature of Michael Jordan, considered one of the greatest athletes in history, he writes.

Michael “Air” Jordan holds the record for the most expensive sports memorabilia in auction history ($10.1 million, as of September 2022). It is a shirt that the Chicago Bulls player wore in the NBA finals in 1998 and which surpasses in value the shirt of the Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona, worn in the quarter-finals against England. at the 1986 World Cup sold for $9.3 million in May 2022.

Last December, a collection of six shirts worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina’s winning campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar sold for $7.8 million, writes Agerpres.
