With over 120 matches for the Belgian national team, Eden Hazard made the announcement that surprised everyone, after a career in which he did not reach his full potential.
Who did he choose between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo?
In an interview with L’Equipe, the Belgian spoke about the rivalry that has gripped international football for the past 15 years, giving credit to world champions and rivals FC Barcelona.
“Individually, Lionel Messi is probably the only one more talented (no than me). I loved watching him when he played at FC Barcelona, he is the greatest in history. It is impossible to take the ball away from him.
“Cristiano is a bigger footballer than me, but in terms of pure football, I don’t think so.”explained Eden Hazard.
How much money did Eden Hazard earn during his career
Eden Hazard has earned around €110 million net in his career. The Belgian played sixteen years as a professional: at the French team Lille, when he was very young, then at Chelsea, where he was very successful, to have a difficult end to his career at Real Madrid.
In all these years, the Belgian winger was among the best-paid players at every club he played for, earning a total of more than 110 million euros net.
At Lille, Eden already had one of the highest salaries in the French championship, although he was very young. In his last season here, he received around €5.5 million gross or €2.8 million net, at just 21 years old. A salary that he will double when he arrives in England, where he will receive a total of 47 million euros net in the seven seasons he spent at Chelsea.
Despite poor performances in Spain, Hazard earned huge sums in Madrid. The best paid player in La Liga, he would have had an annual salary of around 31 million euros gross. For four years at Real, the Belgian international would have received 63 million euros net.
Obviously, this is not his only source of income. In addition to sponsorship contracts, advertisements and image rights, the Belgian also received numerous bonuses for his presence in the national team. A few million euros that added to his impressive salary received at his various clubs.
