Jelena Ostapenko, 25 years old, 18th WTA, surprised in the tournament in Adelaide II not only because of the defeat with Anna Kalinskaya (64th WTA) in the 1st round, but also as a result of the physical form with which she showed herself in the match.

The match against Anna Kalinskaya, 3-6, 4-6, was a nerve-wracking one for Ostapenko: throughout the game she had several nervous outbursts, hit a ground racket and ended the match with a double fault.

Previous, she had also been eliminated by the Romanian Irina Begu in the second round of the Adelaide I tournament, score 6-3, 6-0.

In 2017, Jelena Ostapenko defeated Simona Halep in the final of Roland Garros, thus winning her first and only Grand Slam tournament. In total, she has won five tournaments on the WTA circuit.
