A Romanian car was traveling between the villages of Tsarichino and Kremena, entered the opposite lane and hit a car from Ukraine. Later, the vehicle turned and hit another car from Romania.

MAE reaction

According to the information obtained by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two are in a serious condition, being hospitalized in the neighboring country. Four other Romanians were involved in the accident.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) indicated that it was notified, through the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Bulgaria, about a road accident that occurred on August 8, 2022, at 1:30 p.m., in Bulgaria, between the towns of Tsarichino and Kremena, in which three cars were involved, two of which are registered in Romania.

“According to the preliminary data communicated by the local authorities, as a result of the accident, two people of Romanian citizenship were injured, and two other people, of another citizenship, died. Four other Romanian citizens were also involved in the accident, who did not suffer injuries or other injuries”, stated the MAE.

According to the cited source, the representatives of the Romanian Embassy in Sofia requested the competent local authorities, as an emergency, for additional information regarding the citizenship, identity and state of health of the people involved in the accident, being in contact with the police and the medical unit representatives from Bulgaria where the two wounded Romanian citizens are hospitalized.

“According to the information obtained from the hospital representatives, the two victims, Romanian citizens, are in serious condition, admitted to intensive therapy, respectively surgery, and all the necessary measures have been taken to provide specific medical assistance”, added the MFA.

Also, the MAE informed that the local Bulgarian authorities have opened an investigation to establish the circumstances in which the accident occurred.

“Until now, at the level of the diplomatic mission, there have been no requests for consular assistance from the families of the affected persons. The consular staff is also taking the necessary steps to identify and notify the families in Romania of the persons injured as a result of the accident”, the representatives mentioned the ministry.

DSU analyzes the situation of Romanians interned

The Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) informed, on Tuesday, that it is monitoring from a medical point of view the evolution of the two Romanians seriously injured in Monday’s accident in Bulgaria, in order to plan a possible takeover and transport to Romania, for the continuation of medical care.

“The Department for Emergency Situations maintains contact with the Romanian Embassy in Bulgaria, respectively with the Bulgarian medical team in the hospital unit where the two Romanian citizens are admitted, in order to monitor their evolution from a medical point of view, in order to plan a possible takeover and transport to Romania, for the continuation of the medical care that is required of them,” DSU said.
