General strike at the Romanian Post Office. The employees are stopping their work today and are already accusing management of pressure. In this scandal, however, millions of pensioners could suffer: they risk receiving their pensions later. The management of the Romanian Post claims that it made an offer for those with the minimum wage to receive around 400 lei more, but that this offer was refused.
Valentin Ștefan, the general director of the Post Office, said on Monday that mobile teams had been prepared to take over the activity.
He specified that he made a last offer so that those with the lowest salaries would end up receiving an extra 390 lei, which is about a quarter of the employees.
The others would gradually follow in July or soon after, he said.
“They refused, but the company has no money, we can’t offer more. We will invite them to negotiations again.
We have a limited budget, we cannot increase salaries beyond the strength of the company,” said the director of the Post Office.
“At this time, the activity of the Romanian Post is taking place normally in most counties of the country. The Company’s management is monitoring the situation and we will return with information for the public”, it is stated in a post on the company’s Facebook page.
The National Company “Pošta Română” specifies that the “overwhelming majority”, over 80% of employees, “will carry out their duties with professionalism, as before” and mentions that approximately 20 have joined the collective labor dispute in writing % of company employees.

The company emphasized in a statement yesterday that the escalation of the labor conflict is “artificial” and that it has taken all measures to overcome it. “We assure the more than two million pensioners who receive their social rights through the National Company “Pošta Română” that there will be no person who will not receive their rights on time, in April! All social rights will be delivered on time, until on April 15, as we assumed the commitment!”, says Pošta Română.
