Abrămuț commune, from Bihor county, becomes Petreu commune. A legislative proposal regarding the change of the name and the village of residence of the commune was submitted to the Chamber of Deputies. The Senate is the decision-making chamber.

According to the statement of reasons, the village of Petreu meets all the criteria imposed by the legislation in force to become a commune residence – such as a building in which to operate the town hall, kindergarten, primary and secondary school, medical dispensary, pharmacy or post office. Also, in 2014, the police station of the Abrămuț commune operates in the village of Petreu.

In September of last year, a referendum was held to change the name and the village of residence of the Abrămuț commune, in which 963 residents voted. Of those, about 870 agreed to the change.

“Therefore, the legislative proposal was initiated, which proposes changing the name of the Abrămuț commune, Bihor county, to the Petreu commune and establishing the residence of the Petreu commune, Bihor county in the village of Petreu. Following these changes, the component villages of the Petreu commune are the following: Petreu, the commune’s residence, and the component villages of Abrămuț, Crestur and Făncica,” the statement of reasons states.

Abrămuț commune is located in the northern part of Bihor county, 60 km from the municipality of Oradea and is bordered to the east by the city of Marghita.

According to the town hall’s website, the commune is documented for the first time in the 13th century, through the Petreu locality, located over time under the estate of different Hungarian feudal nobles. The name of the village has an interesting history. The first year the village is called Petri. In 1332 he is mentioned under the personal name Petru, then a few centuries later he was called Malmos-Petri, which later became Monos-Petri, Monospetri, the Hungarian name of today.

What the legislative proposal provides:

“Art. 1- (1) The name of Abrămuț commune, Bihor county, is changed to Petreu commune.

(2) The component villages of Petreu commune are the following: Petreu, Abrămuț, Crestur and Făncica.

(3) The residence of Petreu commune, Bihor county, is established in Petreu village.”
