The average number of employees in 2021 was 5094.3 thousand people, an increase of 62.5 thousand people compared to the previous year.

The number of employees on December 31, 2021 was 5516.4 thousand people, higher by 105.3 thousand people compared to the end of the previous year.

The average gross monthly salary in 2021 was 5,535 lei, and the average monthly net salary was 3,416 lei, up by 6.2% (+199 lei) compared to the previous year.

Compared to the average for the economy, the highest values ​​of average net monthly earnings in 2021 were recorded in the following economic activities: information and communications (+98.3%), financial intermediation and insurance (+63.2%) ), public administration (+54.5%), production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+51.8%), extractive industry (+44.1%), professional, scientific activities and technical (+28.8%), health and social assistance (+19.6%), respectively education (+4.6%).

Average monthly net salary earnings that were below the economy average were in the following economic activities: hotels and restaurants (-44.9%), other service activities (-36.8%), real estate transactions (-28, 3%), administrative service activities and support service activities (-24.8%), agriculture, forestry and fishing (-22.6%), water distribution, sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities (-18.9 %), wholesale and retail trade; motor vehicle and motorcycle repair (-17.9%), performance, cultural and recreational activities (-14.8%), manufacturing industry (-12.3%), transport and storage (-10.3%), respectively construction (-3.1%).

For the year 2021, the real salary earnings index (expressed as a ratio between the net nominal salary earnings index and the consumer price index of the population) was 227.4% compared to 1990, higher by 2.4 percentage points compared to the previous year, respectively with 97.1 percentage points compared to 2008.

Female employees earned on average, in gross terms, 1.5% less than male employees, achieving an average gross monthly salary of 5,490 lei (compared to 5,576 lei for male employees).

In net terms, female employees earned 4.6%, respectively 162 lei less per month than male employees (3331 lei average net salary earnings of female employees, compared to 3493 lei of male employees).

Male employees achieved higher average net monthly earnings than female employees in most economic activities, and the most significant differences were found in financial intermediation and insurance (40.8%), manufacturing industry (25.4%) , other service activities (20.8%), information and communications (18.3%) and wholesale and retail trade; motor vehicle and motorcycle repair (16.9%).

In territorial profile, by county, the average net monthly salary in 2021 was below the average for the economy in 36 counties.

The lowest average net monthly earnings were recorded in the counties of Teleorman (2579 lei, 24.5% less than the average for the economy), Bistrița-Năsăud (2644 lei, 22.6% less than the average for the economy ), Vrancea (2648 lei, 22.5% less than the average for the economy), Covasna (2677 lei, 21.6% less than the average for the economy), Harghita (2687 lei, 21.3% less than the average for the economy), Brăila (2693 lei, 21.2% less than the average for the economy), Vâlcea (2694 lei, 21.1% less than the average for the economy), respectively Botoșani (2695 lei, with 21 .1% less than the economy average).

A slight decrease in the average monthly cost compared to the previous year was recorded in the activity of real estate transactions (-1.1%).

Compared to the average for the economy, the average monthly cost was significantly higher in the economic activities of information and communications (+93.2%), financial intermediation and insurance (+68.0%), extractive industry (+63.5%) , the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+58.1%), health and social assistance (+38.3%), public administration (+29.5%), respectively professional activities , scientific and technical (+26.7%).

The most relevant values ​​of the average monthly cost below the economy average were recorded in the economic activities of hotels and restaurants (-47.5%), other service activities (-35.9%), real estate transactions (-26, 6%), administrative service activities and support service activities (-23.8%), agriculture, forestry and fishing (-22.2%), respectively construction (-21.5%).

In 2021, the average number of employees was 5094.3 thousand people. The average number of employees increased during 2021 by 62.5 thousand people compared to the previous year, as a result of the resumption of the activity of certain economic and social units that temporarily suspended or ceased their activity in 2020, in the context of the pandemic COVID-19.

The average number of male employees predominated as in previous years, representing 52.3% of the total number of employees (respectively 2664.4 thousand people). Compared to the previous year, the average number of male employees increased by 20.3 thousand people, and that of female employees by 42.2 thousand people.

The economic activities in which female employees held the majority were those of health and social assistance (79.9% of the total number of employees of this activity), education (73.5%), financial intermediation and insurance (70.8%), respectively hotels and restaurants (61.2%).

Compared to the previous year, significant increases in the average number of employees were registered in health and social assistance (+16.9 thousand people), construction (+12.3 thousand people), information and communications (+11.0 thousand people ), wholesale and retail trade; motor vehicle and motorcycle repair (+10.3 thousand people), professional, scientific and technical activities (+6.8 thousand people), transport and storage (+4.8 thousand people), administrative service activities and support service activities ( +3.7 thousand people).

At the opposite pole, the most important decrease in the average number of employees was observed in the manufacturing industry (-4.4 thousand people).

The distribution of employees by economic sector showed that the majority were found in the tertiary sector (63.6%) (43.1% in commercial services, and 20.5% in social services). 34.0% of employees worked in the secondary sector (industry and construction), and only 2.4% in the primary sector (agriculture, forestry and fish farming).

The number of employees at the end of 2021 was 5516.4 thousand people. Compared to the end of the previous year, the number of employees registered an increase of 105.3 thousand people.
