The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Ionel Scrioșteanu, announced on Thursday, September 22, that the works on the Domnești Passage in Bucharest are nearing completion.

The passage from Domnești, the first suspended roundabout to be opened on the Capital belt should be inaugurated in September. The builder has finished pouring the asphalt on the metal deck.

The passage with a length of 374 meters is one of the most laborious infrastructure works currently under construction in Bucharest.

Upon completion of the work, traffic on the Ghencea Extension, a highly trafficked and congested thoroughfare in the western part of the Capital, will be largely freed up. As of early October, route reports indicated that 80% of the suspension bridge’s metal girders had been installed.

The contract for the design and execution of the passage from Domneşti was signed in 2017 with the Romanian contractor Straco for approximately 100 million lei.

The project was supposed to be completed in 2019, according to the original plan, but it was delayed for more than a year after the former mayor general Gabriela Firea demanded that the passage be changed.

Firea wanted the return loop of the tram on the Ghencea Extension to be included

At this moment, the estimated deadline for completion of the Domnești passage is September 2022.
