Huge change for the millions of car owners who use the Capital’s ring road. The Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, proposed the transfer of the Capital Belt to the administration of the General City Hall of the Capital. The proposal was made on Sunday, when Gabriela Firea submitted her candidacy for the position of mayor.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu, participated on Sunday in the submission of Gabriela Firea’s candidacy for the position of mayor of the Capital, where he claimed that the tense relationship between the Ministry of Transport and the Capital City Hall affected the development of infrastructure in Bucharest.

Sorin Grindeanu proposes the transfer of the Capital Belt to the administration of the General City Hall

Grindeanu emphasized the lack of a productive dialogue between the Ministry of Transport and the General City Hall, characterizing this relationship as a “war or a dialogue of the deaf”. He expressed his concern that the lack of collaboration affects the citizens of Bucharest and highlighted the need for an integrated plan for public transport, which also includes the expansion of the metro network.

In this sense, the Minister of Transport made a concrete proposal to improve the road infrastructure in Bucharest, suggesting the transfer of the Capital Belt to the administration of the General City Hall. He argued that the Capital Belt has become a kind of inner boulevard and that this change would contribute to traffic management and coherent urban development.

“Therefore, I think that another proposal, Gabi, which is one in favor of the people of Bucharest, is for the Belt to be taken over at this moment by, or in the future, once you come to the mayor’s office, under the administration of the General Mayor’s Office, because it has become , in fact, if you want, like an inner boulevard, a ring of Bucharest”, declared Grindeanu.

In addition, the Minister of Transport emphasized the importance of completing the works on the Capital Bypass Variant (A0), the southern variant, which will considerably reduce traffic in Bucharest.

Another 13 kilometers of the Capital Beltway are ready

Last week, Sorin Grindeanu announced that another 13 kilometers of the A0 South Capital Ring Road were opened to traffic. This extension brings the total drivable length of the motorway to 23.3 kilometres, which is approximately half the total length of the southern semi-ring of the A0.

With this opening, connections are made to the highway profile between the intersections with DN6, DN5 and DN4.

In July, at the latest, the works will also be completed on the other approximately 10 km of Lot 1 (Glina – Vidra), which will allow ensuring the connection with Autostrada Soarelui (A2), Sorin Grindeanu said.

Lot 1 and Lot 2 are built by the same firm, the Turks of Alsim Alarko, who had the official deadlines of 12 months design and 30 months warranty.
